Genevieve Bennett worked part time jobs over a period of years to save the money to purchase her daughter Mary this beautiful Steinway piano. Shipped directly from the Steinway factory to their home in Oskaloosa, IA where it remained for 44 years it was the heart of the Bennett household. Music was a central component of the Bennett household and this piano is the center of many family stories. While Mary’s love of music and specifically the piano did not achieve professional fame, her passion led her to into the world of musical professionals where she was the personal assistant to the singer Peggy Lee for many years. Mary’s brother Max Bennett traveled the nation as an accomplished bass player, touring with renowned musicians such as Ella Fitzgerald and Frank Sinatra. Max would often visit with fellow musicians at his family home in Oskaloosa where Mary, Max and this piano were a central component to some extraordinary musical jam sessions. When Mary moved from the family home in 1995 the piano was purchased by the current owners. Prior to purchase, the piano was thoroughly inspected by a piano specialist who was surprised to find a Steinway of this vintage in such remarkable and outstanding condition. The current owners moved to Des Moines, where the piano is now located.
